Hair & Scalp Health

Understanding scalp health is crucial for overall hair health and well-being, as the scalp is the foundation for strong, shiny hair.

It's easy to overlook taking care of your scalp as part of your skincare routine, but since the scalp is really just an extension of your face, it, too, is susceptible to irritation, itchiness, and dryness.A healthy scalp should be free of issues like dandruff, dryness, itchiness, and inflammation, and it should support healthy hair growth. Various factors, including hygiene, product use, diet, and stress, can impact scalp health.

We are proud stockist's of three Haircare brands - Remi, Hello Klean & Sea + Solu.

Remi

Remi is owned & created by Claire Fullham, who was inspired to launch Remi Scalp Care following her diagnosis with Alopecia Areata. This autoimmune condition resulted in the loss of 90 per cent of her hair.

Sea + Solu

Sea+Solu is an Irish haircare brand that creates haircare for EVERY ethnicity, hair type and hair goal.

After struggling for years to find the right haircare products for her frizzy, wavy hair, Sinead, the owner, created Sea+Solu.  Combining cutting-edge innovation & science, she has created powerful, clean, plant-based haircare products that tick all of these boxes and more.

Not only nourish your hair and scalp, but also envelop you in a moment of daily self-care.

The health of your scalp determines the health of your hair. “Your scalp is like the soil of a farm. Poor soil will directly affect the well-being of the plants growing in it"

Did you know: The scalp contains approximately 100,000 hair follicles, according to the American Academy of Dermatology Association. Each follicle, much like a seed growing into a tree, produces a single strand of hair. In addition to generating hair, follicles secrete sebum—an oily substance that helps keep the scalp hydrated and serves as a protective barrier against infection.Hair follicles extend deep into the scalp and each hosts its own unique microbiome. The scalp itself also has a microbiome. When the balance of this microbiome is disrupted, it has been linked to conditions such as dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis (which causes flaking and scaly patches), and atopic dermatitis (commonly known as eczema). These scalp disorders—including dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis—have been associated with rough, brittle hair, breakage, and a loss of shine. Furthermore, poor scalp health stemming from these conditions may contribute to early hair loss.

Tips for a healthy scalp

Sulphites

One ingredient commonly found in many shampoos is sulphites. While there is much talk about the cons of sulphites, there are some pros to them.

Sulphites are what make shampoos bubbly & foamy. They are often in haircare because they can help remove dirt, sebum, and product residue. However, they do their job a little too well, in that they can pull too much natural oil from your hair and skin, leading to hair feeling dry, frizzy & brittle.

In saying this, it is important to note that sulphates are not necessarily bad for all hair types, but if you already have a dry, sensitive scalp or damaged hair, then you may want to avoid them and opt for products that are SLS and SLES-free.

Shampoo gently

Avoid scrubbing vigorously. Massage rather than scrubbing, Remi's scalp massager will come in handy here. Opting for this method will increase circulation and avoid any surface injuries or irritation.

Supplements

Many believe that incorporating omega-3s & supplements into the diet can help promote hair growth and prevent hair loss. Known's Hair, Skin & Nail Gummies & their Omega 3,6 & 9 Gummies are packed with essential nutrients needed to support growth

Gut Health & Probiotics

A well-balanced gut microbiome aids in the absorption of key nutrients—such as biotin and vitamin B12—that are essential for strong, healthy hair. When this balance is disrupted, it can negatively impact both hair growth and scalp condition.

Shower Filters

As mentioned earlier, Hello Klean is one of the best shower filter brands in today's market. Loved by all & recommended by hairdressers. Their job is to remove hard water minerals, chlorine, and heavy metals from water, which cause damage to hair & skin.

Micro Fibre Towels

After a shower, your hair's texture changes because water disrupts hydrogen bonds, which influence its shape, frizz, curls, and volume. As your hair dries, these bonds reform. Unlike traditional towels that can cause frizz and damage due to friction, microfiber towels offer a gentler, more effective alternative.

Sea + Solu's soft waffle knit microfibre towel dries hair 50% faster and gently, all while reducing excess friction. Super absorbent and super soft, no more frizz and damaged hair strands.
